How to do it
Lie flat on your back with your legs extended and hands at your sides for support. Raise your straight legs to vertical, then push your hips up off the floor to lift your feet toward the ceiling, contracting your lower abs. Lower your hips back down with control and repeat.
- 1Lower abs curling your hips up off the floor
- 2A short, controlled lift driven by your core, not momentum
- 3Hips lowering slowly back to the floor under tension
Common mistakes
- Don't swing your legs to throw your hips up
- Avoid pushing off with your hands; let your abs do the work
- Don't let your lower back arch as your hips return
Muscles worked
The lying leg hip raise mainly works the lower abs, with the upper abs, hip flexors, and obliques assisting.
