How to do it
Lie flat on your back with your legs straight and hands at your sides for support. Lift both legs toward the ceiling and trace a controlled circle with them, then at the top of the movement push through your lower abs to lift your hips off the floor. Lower the hips and reverse the circle, keeping the motion smooth and core-driven.
- 1The lower abs controlling the leg circle and driving the hip lift
- 2Your core bracing to keep the movement smooth and steady
- 3The lower back pressing into the floor between reps
Common mistakes
- Swinging the legs with momentum instead of controlling the circle
- Letting the lower back arch off the floor
- Jerking the hips up instead of lifting with the abs
Muscles worked
The lying leg circle hip raise mainly works the lower abs and hip flexors, with the obliques, upper abs, and quads assisting.
