How to do it

Stand tall with feet hip-width apart. Step forward with one leg and lower your body until both knees are bent at 90 degrees. Push through the front heel to return to the starting position and repeat on the other side.

  1. 1Drive through your front heel and feel your glutes and hamstrings of the lead leg working
  2. 2Keep your chest tall and let the cable provide constant forward tension while you resist it
  3. 3Brace your core to stabilize your torso against the pull of the weight

Common mistakes

  • Don't allow your front knee to cave inward as you lunge forward
  • Avoid leaning over or using your back to pull the weight
  • Refrain from jerking the handle; move smoothly and with control
