How to do it

Step into a low lunge with the front knee bent and the back knee lowered toward the floor. Place the opposite hand down and rotate your torso, reaching the other arm up toward the ceiling, then return and switch sides.

  1. 1A stretch through the back hip and front thigh in the low lunge
  2. 2The trunk rotating open as the top arm reaches up
  3. 3Obliques driving the twist while the hips stay anchored

Common mistakes

  • Forcing the twist from the low back instead of the mid-spine
  • Letting the front knee cave inward
  • Yanking into the rotation; move smoothly
