How to do it
Hold a kettlebell in one hand on the opposite side of your working leg, racked at your shoulder or hanging at your side. Step backward with the same-side leg as the loaded arm and lower your back knee toward the floor, then push through your front heel to stand. The offset load forces your core to resist rotation. Complete all reps, then switch sides.
- 1Step back and lower your back knee, feeling your front glute and quad
- 2engage
- 3Brace your core hard to resist the kettlebell pulling you sideways
- 4Push through your front heel and feel your glute drive you up
Common mistakes
- Do not lean toward the loaded side; keep your torso square
- Do not let your front knee cave inward
- Do not let your front heel lift; keep your weight centered
