How to do it
Kneel on the ground and place the top of your head on the floor with your hands on either side, forming a triangle for support. Lift your hips and walk your feet toward your head until your hips are over your shoulders. Slowly lift one knee to your chest followed by the other, balancing with your legs tucked. Once steady, extend your legs upward to straighten your body. Hold the headstand, engaging your core and shoulders, then reverse the steps to come down safely.
- 1Feel your shoulders, core, and neck supporting your body upside down
- 2Engage your forearms and fingers to grip the ground and stabilize
- 3Align your hips over your shoulders and breathe steadily
Common mistakes
- Avoid dumping weight onto your head; bear weight through your arms
- Don't arch your back; maintain a stacked alignment
- Avoid kicking up violently; enter slowly and with control
Muscles worked
The headstand mainly works the upper abs and lower abs, with the obliques, front delts, triceps, forearms, and side delts assisting.
