How to do it
Stand with feet hip-width apart. Step one foot out on a forward diagonal and lower into a lunge until both knees are bent near 90 degrees, then push through your front heel back to the start. Alternate the angle and leg each rep to hit the hips from a new direction.
- 1Your front glute and quad loading as you lower on the diagonal
- 2Your inner thigh stretching slightly from the angled step
- 3Your front heel driving you back to standing
Common mistakes
- Letting the front knee cave inward
- Leaning your torso too far over the front leg
- Stepping so narrow you lose your balance
Muscles worked
The diagonal lunge mainly works the quads and glutes, with the hamstrings, calves, and adductors assisting.
