How to do it

Set a cable to its highest position and attach a single handle. Stand sideways to the stack and grip the handle with the hand farthest away, arm high. Pull the handle down and across your body toward your opposite hip in a chopping arc, rotating through your trunk, then return under control. Finish the set on one side before switching.

  1. 1Obliques driving the chop down and across your body
  2. 2Rotation coming from the trunk, not just the arms
  3. 3Hips and knees staying stable as you turn

Common mistakes

  • Pulling with the arms while the torso stays still
  • Rounding or yanking through the bottom of the chop
  • Letting the cable snap you back up at the end
