How to do it

Stand in a boxing stance with your hands up. Dip slightly at the knees, then drive up through your rear leg and hip as you punch your right fist upward in a short vertical arc, snapping back to guard.

  1. 1Feel the drive come up from your legs and hips into the rising punch
  2. 2Keep your elbow bent and the motion short and explosive
  3. 3Brace your core through the rotation and return to guard

Common mistakes

  • Don't drop your fist low and wind up before the punch
  • Avoid leaning back or losing your balance on the upward drive
  • Don't leave your other hand away from your chin
