How to do it
Stand in a boxing stance with your hands up. Dip slightly at the knees, then drive up through your lead leg and hip as you punch your left fist upward in a short vertical arc, snapping back to guard.
- 1Feel the drive come up from your legs and hips into the rising punch
- 2Keep your elbow bent and the motion short and explosive
- 3Brace your core through the rotation and return to guard
Common mistakes
- Don't drop your fist low and wind up before the punch
- Avoid leaning back or losing your balance on the upward drive
- Don't leave your other hand away from your chin
