How to do it
Anchor a resistance band overhead and stand facing away, holding the ends down by your shoulders or behind your head. Crunch your torso down and forward against the band by flexing your abs, bringing your ribs toward your hips, then return tall under control. Keep your hips fixed so the motion comes from your trunk.
- 1Your abs contracting to pull your ribs toward your pelvis
- 2Constant band tension through the whole crunch
- 3A fixed lower body so the bend happens at the trunk
Common mistakes
- Bending at the hips instead of crunching the abs
- Pulling with your arms to move the band
- Letting the band drag you back up too fast
Muscles worked
The band standing crunch mainly works the upper abs and lower abs, with the obliques assisting.
