How to do it
Lie on your back with your hips and knees bent to 90 degrees and your shins parallel to the floor. Reach one hand down toward the heel on the same side by crunching your torso slightly to that side, then return and repeat on the other side, alternating each rep.
- 1The obliques on the side you reach toward shortening and squeezing
- 2A short, controlled crunch rather than a long sit-up
- 3Your lower back staying flat against the floor
Common mistakes
- Pulling on your neck or jutting your chin forward
- Letting your feet drift or your legs swing for momentum
- Rushing the reps instead of feeling each side contract
Muscles worked
The 90 degrees heel touch mainly works the obliques, with the upper abs and lower abs assisting.
